Review: Lush's Mask of Magnaminty

This is a review on one of the more popular products from Lush.  Let me preface this by saying that this is a deep cleansing mask, and it's supposed to exfoliate and tone your skin.  It's for people with normal, oily or acne prone skin.


I have dry skin, and I love this mask.  It irritated my skin the first time I used it, but afterwards I think my skin kind of got used to it and it's fine now.


This mask is of quite a thick consistency and can be difficult to spread. So it spreads quite thickly on your face, which I guess is a good thing because I bought the large tub which has a lot of product and it has a shelf life of about 4 months.  My first thoughts?  It smells amazing, like mint chocolate ice cream or something.  That's one of my favourite ice cream flavours so I don't mind it.  If you're sensitive to these smells and you don't particularly like mint, you probably won't like this.


When you put it on your face, it has this... tingly effect, I suppose.  To some it might be irritating, but I welcome it.  It's got such a great cooling effect and feels amazing on my skin.  It actually feels like my skin is being deep cleansed.  I leave this one for about twenty minutes, sometimes longer depending on how thick of a layer I'd slathered on my face. 


The one thing I don't like about this mask is that when it dries, the mask cracks on my face - which is fine.  But the thing is, it starts shedding.  Well, not shedding... but parts do start falling off and it's annoying if I'm just walking around the house and there's green bits everywhere.  I guess the one thing you can do is just stay in your bathroom, shave your legs while doing it or something, haha.  


Anyway, I love this stuff.  It makes my skin feel smooth (the exfoliation from the beans), it cleanses my skin well (prevents me from breakouts - even though I'm not acne prone I still get a zit or two once in a while) and it smells amazing :)  I recommend you getting the smaller tub, just because it's quite difficult to finish a big tub.  If you use a generous amount, maybe two times a week, you should be fine with the big tub.  It's definitely more of a bargain to get the bigger one!  Comment below and let me know what you think of this product.

Lush Haul

So this is just a mini Lush haul. These are the things that I got in a gift exchange with a couple of family friends at a party.

I forgot to take a photo of the hand cream as it was in my purse. So this is just a stock photo from the Lush USA website. It was one of the five things in the Happy Traveller gift set, and it came in a little pump bottle rather than this one. I'll have reviews for these items in the future :)

I also received a slice of the 'Demon in the Dark' soap. It smells so minty, but it can get a little overpowering. It seems like it might be good for exfoliation as well because the top part is uneven.


Back for Breakfast is a limited edition product. It contains different oils and has honey in it, so I can imagine it to be extremely moisturizing. It's a shower gel but apparently you can use it for your hair as well. I can't wait to try it!

Rub Rub Rub is a body scrub. I don't really use body scrubs because I use the beeswax layer from my Honey I Washed The Kids soap as an exfoliator. This smells really refreshing though, not too overpowering. Should I also use a soap with this? I'm not really sure. Comment and let me know!

Happy Hippy is a grapefruit scented shower gel. It is also one of those products you can put in your hair as well as on your body. It also smells, so, so good :D
Last but not least, extra Honey I Washed the Kids soap. If you haven't read my review on this soap, look it up on my blog. It smells absolutely amazing and I can't get enough of it. :) This is just a stock up. The package on the left was from this promotion thing. That's why it's so pretty!

Quick Tip: How To Store Your Lush Soaps

A quick guide to storing your lush soaps!

1) Cut your soap into desired sized pieces (I like mine in little blocks)

2) Wrap them up individually in cellophane (the clear plastic stuff)

Now there are a couple ways in terms of where you can store your soaps. First of all, in the closet. Now, you may think... the closet? Really? Yep, really. It actually helps soak up the humidity in the air. This is extremely useful since I live in Hong Kong and the humidity here is like, crazy. But anyway, soaps have the power to just soak up the liquids in the air and I use those instead of moth balls, or whatever those thingies you stick in your wardrobe are cold. Another plus? Your clothes smell crazily nice :)

Another place? Just take a tall, clear vase, and make pretty patterns with your different soaps! It's pretty, and it takes up less room by stacking them vertically. Keep in mind that it might be difficult to take the ones at the bottom up if you have a large collection of them.

If you're the type of person who likes to buy several different soaps, and switch up after every shower, then buy a couple of those little re-usable plastic boxes. You know, the plastic boxes you use to store your leftovers in the fridge? Those work well because then all the smells are kept within their container and you can just take whichever one you want in the bathroom.

Also, adding on to the vase idea, you could store them in a bowl if you have the space. Just lay them out so you can see which ones you have, you know? That way, you can see which ones you have and plan which ones you're going to use next. This isn't just for soaps, you can do this with bath bombs, bath melts, all that fun stuff.

Review: Lush's Rock Star Soap

I went on a tiny lush splurge the other day, well, a splurge because I bought it in Hong Kong and it's almost twice as expensive as it is in the UK. Anyway, I ended up purchasing a tiny piece of the Rock Star Soap (just over 100g, I believe). I cut it up into thin slices, ready for use.

I've heard a lot of great things about the this soap, especially how it smells and stuff. On the lush site, it's described as "sweet vanilla and strawberry". To me, it just smells really girly and feminine. I do like it, but not as much as my 'Honey I Washed the Kids' soap. Sometimes, I feel the smell can be overbearing and if I'm having an off day, it sometime smell like cough medicine, you know, the cherry kind.

I mean, overall, it does smell really good, and it makes my clothes smell good, hehe. I'll write a new blog post about how to store lush soaps and all, eh? It's easier than leaving it all in the bathroom. But that's another story. I find that it lathers extremely well, it's even better than my 'Honey I Washed the Kids' soap. But that's another disad, it just means the soap will disintegrate faster, so make sure you cut small pieces to stick in your shower, or it'll all just disappear and you've wasted your money. It disintegrates fast because the rock star soap, in my opinion, is actually a little more watery than the honey soap, there's more moisture so it's softer and easier to lather. Smell is great, colour is awesome (it is pink, after all!), lathers well. All in all, a great product from Lush.

Review: Lush's Honey I Washed the Kids Soap

Hey all! I purchased the Honey I Washed the Kids soap about a month ago because I'd seen all the great reviews on it. You know, the typical 'great smelling', 'caramel-y smelling' reviews? Well, I finally succumbed and bought it.

Now, I had huge expectations for this soap just because everyone has been raving about it. So, I went to the store, took a whiff, and HOLY BAJEEZUS. It smelt absolutely amazing! I went ahead and bought about 400g of this, which is quite a lot considering I live in Hong Kong and this costed me about 200hkd. This is around the equivalent of about 25usd? So, it was quite expensive.

Anyway, I got the woman who was working at the particular lush store I bought the soap at to cut the soap up into roughly four equal pieces. I had cut it so that two pieces had the gorgeous honeycomb pattern on top and two pieces were just the plain pale yellow soap. So I hopped into the shower with this soap, sniffing it along the way just because it smelt that good. It is extremely difficult to describe the smell. It's sort of an extremely sweet, caramel/toffee, but also honey smell, I guess. Haha, well that did a great job...

Back to the shower, so I went into my shower and after I'd used my shampoo and had put in my conditioner I took the soap and ran it under the hot water for a second or two. This was just so you know, I didn't have to put dry soap on my skin and make it, like, skid on my skin if you know what I mean. Anyway, so I ran it under the water, and put it on my skin and started sort of, rubbing up and down and to my surprise, it made bubbles! :D Of course, they weren't like huge, bubble bath sort of bubbles... they were more like tiny little bubbles that you get when a soap lathers really well. I expected it to be more creamy and that it'd be difficult to lather, but this wasn't the case obviously.

Moving on, I found this soap to be slightly drying. Don't get me wrong, my skin felt clean after I'd used it, but it wasn't moisturizing for me at all. Overall, I love this soap just because of the smell and because of how it acts like a soap, but moisturizing? Not so much. I use a moisturizer anyhow so it didn't really make a change in my routine.
